The features listed here are not a comprehensive list of 2.37 & 2.38 platform features, and deliberately omits technical features that are not directly controlled by users at PSI, and instead are controlled by the platform administrators.

Continuous app delivery

DHIS2 applications have been separated from the main release cycle, and can now be delivered continuously. This is only available for latest generation apps, which include:

• Capture app

• Line Listing app

• Approvals new generation app

• Usage analytics app

• Cache cleaner app

Eventually ALL user-facing functionalities will be delivered as upgradable apps.

Pros

enhancements and bug fixing are more frequently delivered.

Cons

requires internal testing before deploying new apps, as they can also introduce problems.

DHIS2 new release cadence

DHIS 2.38 was released on April 2022. PSI adopts releases after at least 6 months of launch. PSI deployed 2.38 in January 2023 (initially planned for Dec 2022)

Next scheduled releases for DHIS2 are once-a-year

• Release 2.40: April 2024  

• PSI to deploy 2.40  by Dec 2024
