Ethiopia's Smart Start e-Job Aid is the implementation of PSI's Ethiopia Smart Start guide, and PSI's C4C (Contraception for Choice) algorithm. The e-Job Aid has been implemented as a PWA app, using HTML, CCS and React technologies. It is embedded in PSI's WFA app to provide offline usage as well as authentication and data management. This app has been designed specifically for married girls from 15 to 24 years old that are looking forward to know more about family planning and about changing their lives for the best.

Job Aids at a glance

The ET Job Aids count with 4 “sections” where Smart Start navigators guide a group of girls and their husband through. The sections are as follow:

Couples that have been registered in the ET Job Aids can also get back on track through a returning session, where they are required to answer a set of questions to determine how much they learned in the past session. Girls can choose an avatar that best represent them and their husband as well.

After the quiz is completed, couples are now ready to start answering questions about their preferences when choosing a contraceptive method. Each questions changes the direction of the next questions and at the end of the flow, the algorithm offers up 4 out of 6 possible contraceptive methods (IUD, implant, condoms, emergency contraceptive, pills and injectables).

What is next?

The four regions that the application currently covers is only the beginning, there are plans to make this application widely available, through the Google Play Store and the Apple Store, to the entire Ethiopia. You can also find what has been included in each version of the application from day zero to post-production at Release notes.
