DHIS2 Android Capture application

Introduction

The DHIS2 Android Capture application is an Android-specific version of DHIS2, meaning that it replicates the features and functionality of the web browser-based DHIS2 software but is used on Android-based devices, including smartphones and tablets.

The DHIS2 Android Capture application has been an essential part of PSI’s global adoption of DHIS2, as it allows for data capture in real-time that is closer to the source of PSI’s interventions and programs, resulting in rapid data processing and higher quality data.

DHIS2 Android Capture Features

The Android Capture app features mirror those of the browser-based DHIS2 application.

What is PSI Android Fork?

The PSI Android Fork is a customized version of the core DHIS2 Android Capture application. It has been developed independently from the official DHIS2 Android Capture application that the University of Oslo manages. The PSI Android Fork uses the source code of the DHIS2 Android Capture application but added modifications to include additional relevant and necessary features to support PSI DHIS2 applications and programs.

Why did we create the PSI Android Fork?

Currently, there are two PSI DHIS2 applications (Health Network Quality Information System - HNQIS and Routine Data Quality Assessment - RDQA) that utilize a series of complex calculations based on the scores of the application assessments. The outcome of the results is a series of structured feedback and guidance based on the score of each area assessed. This type of IF → THEN statement display was impossible in the DHIS2 Android Capture.

Beyond this feedback module, the PSI Android Fork is the same as the Android Capture app. In future releases, additional functionality may be added.
