Recommended devices

If Android App or PSI App is going to be used, it is necessary to understand the minimum specifications for the devices to use.

In this link you can find extensive details about the minimum and recommended specifications for the following devices: mobile phones, tablets and Chromebooks. The main points are the following:

  • The device must last more than 2 years.

  • For the devices working with Android, the minimum version supported is Android 4.4 (which will be discontinued on April 2022); while the minimum recommended version is Android 7.X. For the devices with Chrome OS, the operating system can be updated for at least 5 years after release.

  • The minimum RAM capacity for mobile devices should be 1.0-1.5Gb while the recommended capacity should be +2.0Gb. In the case of Chromebooks the minimum is 4Gb and the recommended is 8Gb.

  • Regarding storage, it is important to note that the DHIS2 app does not require much storage space, but the user may need additional space for images or videos. Therefore, the minimum capacity needed is 8Gb and the recommended capacity is +32Gb.

  • Any device is required to have Bluetooth 4.0 or better and WiFi 2.4GHz & 5.0GHz. Additionally, for the mobile devices the 4G(LTE)/3G connectivity is recommended.

Please, be sure to check out the link mentioned above for further clarification on the recommended devices and their specifications.

DHIS Android versions

In order to use the RDQA program in the DHIS2 Android app is necessary to keep in mind that the application is constantly evolving, incorporating new functionalities and discarding others. Be sure to check out the GitHub repository where the releases are up-to-date and available to download: Link to the DHIS2 Android App GitHub Repository.

It is important to mention that the last version to be tested was the Android Capture App for DHIS2 (V2.6.2).

This and previous versions have been tested and validated to perform in accordance to quality assurance parameters.

PSI Android

A customized DHIS2 version, known as PSI Android, is also available. To download this version of the app click here. The device specifications and user roles are the same as the mentioned above.

Unique features

The PSI Android app has the Feedback module which is a summary of all the scores according to each dimension and allows the user to see more information about the dimension and also to share the assessment results through mail, WhatsApp or SMS.

User/User group management

DHIS2 instances support the creation of users in order to define individual roles and access to information. It is also possible to create user groups to facilitate the sharing of the different elements (programs, data elements, tracked entity attributes, etc.). In the current metadata package, you'll find that all objects are public, which implies that each metadata object will be accessible to all users if they have the respective roles to change metadata. It is highly recommended, once you import the package, to create user groups to grant access only to the desired users.

The following table contains the main and recommended user groups to configure in your instance:

User group

Description

Sharing settings

Admin

Users in this group are in charge of adding, updating and/or deleting the core elements of the system

Enable metadata permissions to the program, program stages, program indicators, data elements, tracked entity attributes, dashboards and indicators. Data permissions are not required but can be included as "view only" or "capture and view".

Data entry

Users in this group are able to enter data only

Enable data permissions to the program and program stages. Metadata access isn't required but can be included as view only

PSI user groups

For PSI servers, there are two main user groups:

User group

Permissions

RDQA - Admins

Can capture and view data AND edit and view metadata of programs and program stages
Can edit and view metadata of data elements
Can edit and view metadata of tracked entity attributes
Can edit and view metadata of option sets
Can view and edit metadata of dashboards and data visualizer charts

RDQA - Users

Can capture and view data AND view only permissions of programs and program stages
Can view metadata of data elements
Can view metadata of tracked entity attributes
Can view metadata of option sets
Can view metadata of dashboards and data visualizer charts
